What determines the cost of senior pictures?

The short answer: you’re paying for the experience and the expertise, not just the photos. Senior pictures in the Lawrence area range from a friend with a camera to a full luxury experience, and the difference comes down to a few things.

Session length matters. A 20-minute mini session and a session with up to 3 hours, multiple outfits, and multiple locations are two different products. What’s included matters too. Professional hair and makeup, outfit planning help, and posing coaching all take time and skill. And what happens after the session matters most of all. Some photographers text you a gallery link and disappear. Others sit down with you, help you choose your favorites, and help you turn them into wall art and albums your family will keep for decades.

None of those approaches is wrong. But they cost different amounts because they deliver different things.

What’s included in a senior session with MBP?

Every senior experience with me is built so your senior never has to guess what to do. Here’s what that actually includes.

Before the session: a welcome packet the day you book, plus a wardrobe and prep guide so outfit planning is handled together, not left to a stressful closet standoff the night before.

On session day: professional hair and makeup for girls, done by a licensed artist with long-wear products. Up to 3 hours of shooting. 3 to 5 outfit changes. Multiple Lawrence locations planned around the light. And posing coaching the entire time, so even if your senior has never done a photoshoot before, they’ll never feel stiff or lost.

After the session: around 70 edited images, hand-edited to be bold and expressive while still looking like your kid on their best day. Then we meet in person for your Gallery Reveal and Purchasing appointment, where you see the gallery for the first time and choose your favorites together with me.

Why do professional senior pictures cost more than a friend with a camera?

Because the photos are only half of what you’re buying. The other half is everything that makes those photos possible.

A friend with a camera can take a nice picture. What a professional photographer can’t usually be matched on is planning three outfits around two locations and golden hour light, coach a nervous 17-year-old into looking relaxed, edit 70 images by hand, and then help your family decide what deserves a place on your wall. That’s the part that turns senior pictures from a task you check off into something your senior actually enjoys.

Here’s the thing I hear from parents most often after a session: their senior walked in nervous and walked out feeling confident. That’s what the investment buys. This chapter only happens once.

How do Lawrence families budget for the cost of senior pictures?

Most families think about it in two parts: the session itself and the artwork afterward.

My advice: decide before the session what matters most to your family. If you know you want a wall piece over the fireplace or an album for grandma, tell me. I’ll shoot with that end result in mind.

Is it worth it?

Only you can answer that for your family. The cost of senior pictures is easier to weigh when you think about where the images end up. Your senior’s photos from this year are the ones that will sit on your wall, in your parents’ hands at graduation, and in a frame at their own home someday. School picture day won’t give you that. A rushed session won’t either. rushed session won’t either.
